I think you may still have PayPal in sandbox mode. I can’t make payment.
hi wendell,
i think we got that fixed, as of 8:45 a.m. today, sept. 21. please try again! sorry for any problems, but we are looking forward to seeing you at WordCamp Portland 2015!
Thanks! I’m registered and looking forward to it. 🙂
Maybe I’m missing it, but while this page has lots of information, I don’t see anything that tells me what WordCamp is actually about or what I’ll gain by attending. Where’s the beef?
hi Shirley!
WordCamp is a local, community organized gathering/celebration of all things related to the Open Source Content Mangement System software for the Word Wide Web, WordPress (http://wordpress.org), which currently is the software behind 25% of all web sites and very popular amongst users. It is for everyone, from rank beginners who want to do their first web site or blog to professional developers who code WordPress themes and plug-ins in PHP (though if you don’t know any of that, it is not a problem). To quote the statement from the WordCamp Central site —
“WordCamps are informal, community-organized events that are put together by WordPress users like you. Everyone from casual users to core developers participate, share ideas, and get to know each other.”
You can find out more about WordCamps and their general purpose at http://central.wordcamp.org/, and about WordPress at http://wordpress.org.
I hope this helps answer your question, Shirley. Please feel free to reply back or contact us at the “Contact” link above in the Header Menu bar if you gave any further questions.
What if I want to set up my website through WordPress.com instead of .org (because I understand the .com version is easier for non-techy types)? Is WordCamp still helpful?
yup, Shirley! WordPress self-install, WordPress.com hosted, all things you want to know are covered at WordCamp. one thing — WordPress.com, for security to the site, doesn’t allow you to add plugins or themes beyond what they offer. but if you can live with that, then you’re fine, and yes, WordCamp is for you also. we all hope to see you there.
PS: Thank you for your previous reply. Please excuse my gap in manners!
Do you have a schedule of what is being presented? This is required by my place of employment before they will purchase a ticket for me. I can’t seem to find an agenda.
Thank you so much, Marsha
Hello Marsha,
We still are accepting applications for speakers through September 30th, so we won’t have a full schedule until the speaker applications are all in and the speaker choices are finalized. We should have our schedule up in a week or so. The day will probably be from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Until then, you can either buy your ticket and then submit a receipt to be reimbursed by your employer after the schedule is up; or, you can wait to purchase until after our schedule is up.
I hope this helps with your query to us. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Thank you very much. I’m not new to WordPress but I am to WordCamp. I am looking forward to it!
Any program agenda yet? A basic one?
Hi Marsha,
We just made an announcement of our first speakers chosen for the conference that was on our twitter feed (@wcpdx). we are still finalizing our speaker choices, asking their preference for speaking time, and waiting to hear back to hash out a schedule. Please keep checking back on our blog here and watch the web site for a speaker page and schedule page. Thank you for your patience & understanding.
Marsha & others —
Our schedule is now up here on the web site. Enjoy!
